Holes

HOLE 1

So, we start with an easy Par 3 eh? Well, not quite, at 192 yards (166 Red tees) off the yellow tees it represents a stiff starting challenge to your round. Watch out for the small bunker at the back, craftily hidden away to catch you out!

HOLE 2

On to the next, a 360 yard (332 red) Par 4 with a blind green. Look to the left off the tee and you will see the third green (for reference as you come down 3rd fairway!) Aim for marker post and you’ll have an easy approach to the green. Miss the fairway and plenty of rough awaits! Oh, yes, grass bunker to left of green and sand bunker to right – just to let you know.

HOLE 3

Remember the green? Ah well you weren’t listening then? Another blind hole, but straight with a cheeky fairway bunker to the left and a grass one to the right. But wait? Yes, over the mound that hides the green and another cheeky sand trap awaits – and for good measure a grass one to the right.  Ring the bell as you leave the green, don’t want group behind landing their ball on your head!

HOLE 4

Walking under the railway bridge (yes there’s a railway line splitting the course – a train spotter’s delight!) leads you to the fourth tee. Dead straight and at S.I. 16 the easiest Par 4 of the lot! Diddy bunker to left of green though, so watch out.

HOLE 5

A good old dog leg this one – right to left. Greenkeeper’s sheds on left of fairway, which the De Chambeau’s of this parish sometimes try and drive over to get to the green. Mere mortals follow the dog leg but no obvious traps.

HOLE 6

Second Par 3 of the round and only 142 yards (136 red) easiest hole on the course they say….. Some light rushes to front and grass bunker to left, you’re bound to get a par at least here!

HOLE 7

From little to large! A monster Par 4 (for us anyway!) and if the wind is against you well then let’s hope you’ve been going to the Gym. Small fairway bunker awaits the big boys and green has small bund at the back, so don’t go through the green otherwise a Mickleson flop will be the order of the day!

HOLE 8

Slight dog leg – left to right. Rushes to right hand side so keep left and easy approach awaits again. Grass bunker on left hand side of green but it’s S.I. 8 for a reason……

HOLE 9

Another straight fairway but a well-protected green with bunker to right hand side. At 380 yards it’s a good challenge, keep it straight and you’re laughing all the way to a par!

HOLE 10

Well, half way now and another dog leg – right to left. Lots of gorse on this one so need to be straight. Small trap full of rushes to right hand side just before green, but otherwise quite open. Good start to back nine!

HOLE 11

Guess what? Right to left again! Out of bounds to left hand side of fairway (markers on Right hand side relevant to next hole) A good drive to right part of fairway opens the green out nicely. If you’ve hit it left side – Tiger line required….!

HOLE 12

Yup! You guessed it! Left to right this time though and last dog leg! Keep it left and green opens up nicely. Marker posts to right of fairway sets out internal out of bounds, so don’t try and go for green…. Bunker to left of green, which you won’t  get into right?

HOLE 13

Dead easy Par 3 this one – aren’t they all? Straight ahead, but, wait, a bunker on the right will catch your wayward drive. Oh? Did we mention the bunker to the left as well? So, as we say – keep it straight!

HOLE 14

Easy, but long Par 4. Rushes to right might catch you out. But will the petite bunker just in front of green to the left? Oh, aye and the fairway bunker to right hand side. It’s S.I 3 for a reason so not so easy maybe?

HOLE 15

Drive over a ditch and it’s a cinch!  Rushes and gorse nearer to green await a wayward approach. Aye, another sand trap to left of green. No problem!

HOLE 16

Last of the Par 3’s at 158 yards (147 red), with another diddy sand trap to right and before green. Plenty of gorse in front so some elevation required on tee shot or there will be some searching going on! Those Pro V1’s aren’t cheap! (other top brands are available!)

HOLE 17

This is the one you’ve all been waiting for? The hardest hole on the course, nice big wide fairway, big green, no sand traps, what’s not to like? You’ll see…..

HOLE 18

No, this is the one you’ve been waiting for, Anglesey Golf Club’s signature hole. Need to hit over the river – not once, but twice! Nice eh? As you look forward to the 19th, it is right in front of you, but you’ve got to get over the river to reach the green. Second shot? Or third shot? Watch the sand protection to right and left, they will catch any wayward approach with glee! A par here will set you up nicely for that well-earned snack and pint that awaits!
